Beyond the business and travel opportunities, learning Mandarin is a fantastic way to “unlock” a different way of thinking. From its beautiful character system to its melodic tones, it offers a rewarding challenge that is more accessible than you might think.
The Course
This course is designed for complete beginners or those who have dabbled with apps like Duolingo and want to start using their Chinese in the real world.
Our sessions will be conversation-led from day one. While the tones and grammar are unique, we won’t get bogged down in dry drills. Instead, we will weave essential grammar and character recognition into practical, everyday scenarios—ordering food, introducing yourself, and navigating daily life—ensuring you build a solid foundation while having fun.
The Tutor
Aaron Nicoll is a Mandarin learner and enthusiast who has followed the language path from school and university to living and working in China. Aaron currently teaches Mandarin in Secondary schools and to university students. By immersing himself in the local culture, Aaron moved beyond the classroom to achieve real-world fluency.
“As a learner myself, I remember exactly how it feels to encounter those first four tones or your first few characters. I understand the hurdles and the ‘lightbulb moments.’ My goal is to demystify the language, share the cultural nuances I learned while living in China, and give you the confidence to start speaking Mandarin from your very first lesson.”
