Barrier to traditional forms of learning

Do you know anyone with a barrier to traditional forms of learning who might benefit from coming along to a HERA class, where the learning is informal and relaxed, with a mixture of ages and topics on offer?

If so, we’d love to hear from you. Please send us an email if you know of a worthy citizen in the Tayside area (aged over 16) who has struggled to access education due to health, disability, family circumstances, poverty etc.

Online enrolment

Online enrolment starts at 6pm 25th August 2022 and ends Monday 29th August 2022.

Unfortunately Fitness Pilates was fully booked after our enrolment evening at Harris Academy 24th August 2022.

Please note there are a few classes close to full but some others such as How the Brain works, French and Italian which are only available via online enrolment are all waiting to be filled.

Science with a twist

If you have an interest or want to learn more about health or the environment have a look at our 2 new classes.

The HERA climate change module aims to explore the challenges we face with the climate change emergency.

The brain is the source of your consciousness and your personality, as well as allowing you to control and regulate your body. How does this complex organ work and what happens when it malfunctions? See more on this class “How the brain works in health and disease”

Languages this term

We have 2 language classes on offer this term both delivered via Zoom. Italian is on a Tuesday evening and French on Wednesday evenings.

French with tutor Lynne Topping. Classes are informal, based on paired group conversations. Topics covered include: food, self & family, daily routine, socialising & travel.

Italian. Whether you are a beginner or an intermediate Italian speaker, whether you want to learn Italian for business or pleasure this is the class for you. Learning within a group environment can help you perfect your language skills at a level that suits your needs.

Fitness fun

Our well subscribed Fitness Pilates class is held in Blackness Library on Tuesday evenings between 6pm and 7pm.

Fitness Pilates is a low-impact form of exercise that combines deep breathing with gentle stretching to boost strength, balance, and mobility. It is suitable for all levels, especially beginners. In this class we will gently work on our core strength, improving our posture and flexibility by doing a series of mat-based exercises.

This class is done in bare feet or socks.

Please bring water and a yoga mat with you.

5th birthday celebration

HERA celebrated 5 years of providing educational and recreational classes in the west end of Dundee.

A party was held at the Vine Dundee last night (Friday 19th August 2022) for past, present and future members of our classes.

If you didn’t manage to attend we look forward to meeting you in our approaching new session.
