Scottish Traditional Music Group Playing

The aim of this class is to bring people together to play Scottish traditional music in a group. The class will consist of mixed instruments common to the style, such as fiddle, guitar, mandolin, accordion, piano, whistle/flute, clarsach, cello. This list is not exhaustive.

If you play one of these instruments and are looking to experience playing in a group, increase your knowledge of tunes, or develop your skill to be able to play in a pub session, this may be the class for you. Maybe you started learning or relearning an instrument during lockdown and you are looking for an opportunity to continue.

Two of the tunes we will start with are Morag of Dunvegan, a waltz and the Flowers of Edinburgh, a reel. The tunes will be taught primarily by ear, but access to notation will be available if preferred. You can find notated and audio versions of these tunes easily on http://www.nigelgatherer.com. If you can play these tunes, or even a section of them, you will get something from this class.
