Urban Botanical established in 2016 with the intention to approach floristry from a fresh perspective, one not bound by rules or code. My background is in Fine Art having graduated with a BA Hons in Fine Art from Duncan of Jordanstone and this influences my approach to floristry, often problem solving in a different manner from the old fashioned or traditional methods of floristry.
The floristry that excites me is different, it is modern and arty. Just like Art, Floristry is subjective and not everyone will like what I like. I am passionate about Environmental issues, how and what I buy effects my global footprint, just like ‘throw away fashion’ cheap supermarket flowers have an impact etc. Sustainability is a particular interest of mine, growing and a more ‘Eco-friendly’ approach are all things I consider in my practice.
In this short course we will explore modern flower arranging techniques as well as some tradional methods, how to make the most of the seasons as well as your own garden. We will cover the elements of floral design while learning about floral styles and movements. The course will be fun and colourful, together we will make things like – a hand tied gift bouquet, wearable flowers – floral jewellery, a spring bowl arrangement, a foraged arrangement and finishing off with a wonderful Dutch Masters inspired exhibtion.
